Description

In this talk I will present the procedure for development of next generation modal filters that are required by design for 3G detectors. I will discuss the role in aberration control and unavoidable necessity of freeform mirror surfaces as well as their tolerancing. New findings in machine learning, iterative and direct solutions toward finding optimal (and unique) phase surfaces will be given with heavy emphasis on choice of non Euclidean treatment of mirror geometry and its consequences for mirror Zernike content, PSD, their mutual relation and modal filters ultimate performance. Comment will be made on stringent requirements for extreme metrology precision and production of such surfaces.
